Virtual Ticket 7.0 Overview

Virtual Ticket 7.0 has arrived, bringing with it many new features and functionality. Included in this major release is integrated Digital Storage Manager functionality that provides greater asset management, archiving, and retrieval functionality within the product as well as easier viewing of files under management and integration with Retrospect and Rimage. Also included are enhanced Find capabilities and the ability to utilize MetaScript in Finds.

What is the Server Configurator tool that is installed with the most recent version of the application server software?

With the most current release of MetaCommunications products, a menu item named Server Configurator has been added to the MetaCommunications Program Menu on the Windows server. This menu item opens the Server Configurator, a tool that allows the administrator to: create new databases, change the application family of the database, and configure InterSync for use with additional databases (among other tasks). Administrators will appreciate the simplicity and efficiency of always having access to this tool. Previously, these tasks were handled through the installation software, requiring the administrator to locate the installer on the server or download it again in order to perform these straightforward tasks.

Using MetaScript with Finds

As was mentioned earlier in this edition, Virtual Ticket has been improved to allow the use of certain MetaScript functions in Finds. The use of MetaScript can help simplify Finds that are used on a continual basis, such as a daily job list or a search for jobs for the logged in user. For example, suppose your users run a Virtual Ticket Find every day that shows them the jobs which are due that day. Previously, the user would need to change the date value in the Find every day. The addition of MetaScript allows a script to be used to calculate today's date. Knowledge Base article 16238 contains a list of the supported MetaScript functions and examples of their use.

Online Help to the Rescue

With the most current release, online help has been integrated into all products, giving users quick access to information that will help them resolve everyday questions and learn more about the applications. Digital Storage Manager and Virtual Ticket contain their Online help in the Help menu of the application. The MetaCommunications Production Portal contains a Help link in the upper right corner of the browser window which will access the online help for Job Manager and Approval Manager.
