Feature Spotlight

Job Manager Web Portal Beta

With its recent beta release, users who are eager to try the new Web Portal version of Job Manager have an opportunity to put the product through its paces. If you are using the OS 9 version of Job Manager and have OS X computers, you will be able to use this product to work natively in OS X. This version of Job Manager is a component in the new MetaCommunications Production Portal (MPP) product initiative. The functionality in this beta version of Job Manager focuses on the day-to-day needs of the production worker, providing job recording, job and customer entry, time card, reporting and more. Customers interested in getting a first hand look should contact technical support for an installation key.

Q&A with Technical Support

What are .VTS files?

In the new web portal version of Job Manager, users may notice the temporary .vts files which appear when attempting to open a Job Manager record in Virtual Ticket. These .vts files contain the database link, username, password, and an OpenURI statement to automatically launch and open Virtual Ticket with the desired record displayed.

Smart Tip of the Month

Extended Preview Printing – Revised

A previous solution available in the MetaCommunications Solution Catalog provided Macintosh users with the ability to print extended previews of Digital Resources by using an AppleScript to open the extended preview .jpg in a web browser. A revised version of this solution allows users to extract the extended preview information with both operating system platforms and print the extended preview with a desired application. This can be useful when users need to export the jpg preview of a file and forward it to someone through email, file sharing, etc.

Third Party Software

Cache Cleaning

Tiger Cache Cleaner was suggested by a customer as a good tool for clearing up quirky problems a user may experience with OS X. TCC provides several Mac OS X maintenance and utility options, that when combined with OS X's disk repair tools, can be effective in resolving many system problems.

TCC is shareware but a free demo can be found at http://www.versiontracker.com/.
