Feature Spotlight
Enhanced LDAP Solution
Several months ago we spotlighted a solution for Virtual Ticket and Job Manager that allowed users to access the database using an existing LDAP login. This solution has been recently enhanced with the following new features: support for longer server and domain names, a Virtual Ticket folder type and form for configuring LDAP connectivity, a form-based test utility for verifying connectivity, and a field for monitoring a list of users configured to use the LDAP solution.
This enhanced solution can be found at:

Q&A with Technical Support
What cosmetic changes can be made to Virtual Ticket Web Server?
A person experienced in HTML can make changes to the outward appearance of Virtual Ticket Administrator by modifying the element files contained in the vticket/skin/elements directory of a Virtual Ticket Web Server installation. These element files are specific to the various areas of the Virtual Ticket Web Server interface and are clearly labeled to make finding the right area easy. In these element files, items like background color, logos, cell spacing, number of columns in search results, and other appearance settings can be modified.
Smart Tip of the Month
Create a Job Folder
Using a combination of MetaScript and SQL, folders can be created on a Windows file server from a form in Virtual Ticket. In this months example, fields on a Virtual Ticket form designate the server volume and the name of the new folder. Other form fields could be used to create the folder name (eg. Job Number + Job Name, etc) or construct an entire folder structure. Once the folder is created, the folder and its contents can be added to the Virtual Ticket database using of InterSync.
Next month we will explore the same process using AppleScript.

Third Party Software
Automating Windows Tasks
AutoIt 3.0 is a free scripting and Windows GUI automation tool. Initially built to help roll out new applications to multiple workstations, AutoIt can be used to create complex scripts, simulate key strokes and mouse movements, and execute Windows RunAs scripts among other tasks. AutoIt scripts can also be complied into executables which can be run on computers that do not have AutoIt installed.
